I love running, but I never can find the motivation to run, so when I do, I know it is never at my potential and more often than not ends prematurely because I just get bored. Any advice?

How about headphones and music to run with. Playing some snappy tumes make it go by faster. I never ran without music. I works, and it helps. I also like to clean house that way.

its natural to bore of something if u start losing interst ,i dont u r running to participate somewhere or to make urself fit .if u r running for making urself fit then if u r running go for it with someone like some friend or ur wife if u r married or with ur pet ,that way u will never bore ,whole of the way u will enjoy .make it in habbit defnatily there is no need for motivation .try it u will say that's great .....

Good suggestion to go with someone, a friend or whoever. That usually helps with motivation, and boredom. Once you agree to run on at a specific time, you are more likely to stick to the plan, since your friend would be counting on you to be there. And of course, you can challenge each other while running to ease the boredom, or talk to each other and keep each other entertained that way.

find a companion if possible or set some goal for everyday like 1km then 1km and 200m ...1km 400m on third day and so on set weekly and monthly goal too like 3km in a week or 15 km in a month

If music, audiobooks and short-term targets don't work... find yourself a running partner... some sporty hottie, that would make you want to run with her day&night, rain&snow;-)

I am enrolled in a gym where the treadmills have TV screens attached to them. Even the treadmill has built-in channel and volume controls. It's motivation for me to exercise while watching my favorite shows. I also suggest you find someone who likes to run as much as you do, and who can go at a similar pace. My friend and I run a couple of times a week and we get to catch up on each other's lives while we do that. Also, try buying a nice shirt one size smaller and make it your goal to fit in it. It also serves as a gauge on how much running has benefited you.

Sometimes if someone else also likes running, you two can set up a time & place & run together. If he can run longer than you, that might be some motivation to reach your potential. If not, it would also be motivation for that partner to reach his potential.

I would suggest getting a tredmill for your home. Set it up in front of the tv and watch what you want to. The more you are into the show the faster time will go by. A movie would probably be better so you wont get interrupted by the commercials. Or you could also find a different kind of cardio workout that you would enjoy more.

I just started a similar discussion! I, too, get bored just wailing away at the gym. What seems to be working now is to be on a training schedule. I've found some great ones at http://www.halhigdon.com I'm doing a 10K "novice" level one, but he has many. Somehow, having a goal makes it easier to suffer. I also use a radio or ipod when I'm running.
