Why do some men/women prefer to remain singles? What does make them indifferent to marriage life?

Free of commitments and free of emotional disturbances could be main the reasons for some people to remain single I guess. In some cases, they might have been scared because of what they saw in others life, the unpleasant happenings.

I have remained single because I just never found the "right man" to make that committment to . I have dated a lot and been in a lot of relationships, but none of them seemed to have what I felt was needed to sustain a marriage. I am happier being single than I would be if I were trapped in the wrong marriage... When I come across "Mr. Right", I'm sure that I will know it, and at that time will consider marriage.

Many thanks for a meaningful,interesting and thought provoking response. Would you mind to point out what are essentially needed to sustain a marriage? What were mostly lacking in all your relationships that prompted you to remain single? What attributes ' Mr, Right' ought to possess for a sustainable marriage?
