Is it safe to give your Social Security number when applying to online job? If we are responsible for paying our own taxes they shouldn't need our SS#.

Things are changing in tax law. NOw, most online work at home positions are required to have your w-9 on record. Things are now being reported to the IRS through online businesses so the IRS can nail you with any inconsitencies if you fail to report the income. Whether its safe or not, if a site that you are doing business through requires your ssn, you need to provide it.
