What makes a 'top discussion'

I'm wondering what it is that makes a discussion one of the top discussions. I initially thought it was the amount of replies it had but I've seen some where they have very little replies.
Is it based on views to these topics? Does anyone know how to get your discussions into the top topics?

A hot topic in todays world may make your discussion the best, but see that it not been repeated again by other users, then they may not be following mylot guidelines, and also see to that never make any typo errors or spelling mistakes since this is been seriously affecting your topic, and also see that u re discussions are attached with enough tags and also add an photo to your topic to make it look attractive.
