How have you dealt with the work of getting security clearance for employment?

I've got an offer for a good paying IT job. I am getting an offer letter coming week, but the start date will be decided after my getting the security clearance. The company is going to have me apply for the "interim security clearance" which lasts only 180 days. I am discouraged and appalled by the amount and kind of information I have to provide on the security clearance. I feel overwhelmed because I have to trace back minute details I've FORGOTTEN about my previous jobs years ago. Have anyone else felt overwhelmed in getting any forms of security clearance? How have you managed and got cleared? Please share your experience. Thank you.

That only happened to me once in a management promotion years ago. I had to make my superior wait for me to make phone calls to places where I had worked, which didn't work out because a lot of places were under new management and one place was even closed. Wish I could help, but I do sympathize with your frustration.
