Do we in India choose professions based on our abilities and passion?

I am of the opinion that though there are lot of highly qualified personnel in India who have become a sucess, it is mostly seen that most of our proffesionals are in their proffesion just because their scores could get them that particular course or because of parental pressure. Its very rarely seen that people choose proffesional courses just because they are passionate about it. But I feel the New emerging India shows enough potential to harbour any profession which was not the scenario a few years ago. For eg, artist, biologist,pyschologists were just mere shadow proffesion with almost a neglible sucess rate. But today we have scope for subjects like pyschology, arts, carpentry,talioring,etc
