Somebody told me that when a child is over 18 or start going for jobs, they are supposed to pay their parents whatever expenditure they made for the child. Can anybody tell me what is true. If it is,will they keep an account of whatever they spent on the kid?

Absolute rubbish. Certainly not here in Australia and neither in America and I'll bet no-where else either. Does not bear further discussion.

Is it true in India the woman has to pay someone to marry her? See how silly that is? like your question, do you really believe that our children have to pay us? Get real, this is so silly.

I don't think it's fair to be that rude fayzah. How are people who live in other countries supposed to know if they don't ask? Isn't it better they ask and are corrected rather than making assumptions?

in some castes indian women still give dowry to get married.dowry can be money, car, job, property or any equivalent.but it is against the indian law.if someone complains, the guy and his parents will have to count the bar.

I have to agree. How is someone from another country supposed to know what goes on here? That was a bit harsh.

It depends a lot on the family. Most though do not do this. Usually once a child turns 18 and is working they move out on their own anyways. Now some parents might ask them to contribute to the household if they are working, pay a rent of sorts, but not all families do this. Each family is different on this. However there is nothing that says they have to do anything. Hope that helps.

it happens even in India. they would want you to contribute to household once you start working.

I think that some people say it but its not necessessarily going to happen. Most parents dont really expect to be paid back by their child in money buy by how the child lives their lives. I dont think its an overall statemnt for american parents to do so.

well it has been my experience that it is true, most parents want you to do something, if you do nothing but live at home you must begin to pay rent after high school.. this is normal and does not create a family clash, just teaches the kid to be responsible... many many american kids want to leave home anyway after 18 yeras old.

I'm not aware of anyone making their children reimburse them for all the expenses they incurred while growing up. Now once they are 18, if they are still living at home, it is typically expected that they contribute financially. Usually for say rent, food, water, power, and stuff like that.

i don't think that is true, the child pays for amount spent in his growing years? what i heard is that a child reach the age of 18, they start to live on their own. to show a little responsibility in handling life
