Other teachers what do you do when parents complain

I am a lead teacher in a christian preschool. The other day I had told one of my students not to walk on books. They have them all in the floor. I had also asked them to pick up some of the books (which they had not yet). The child walked on books over to the bookshelf to get more books and as I said I had asked her not to walk on the books. On the way back from the bookshelf with other books in her hand she slipped on a book that she stepped on (she almost fell but did not fall). I said to her DO NOT WALK ON THE BOOKS. When I turned around her father was standing there to pick her up. He then went and complained to my director and said that I was using a harsh voice with her. What do you do when you have told these kids several times and they keep doing what you ask them not to. Timeout is not working either. I have a 2 1/2 year old and I would have spoken to him the same way also if he was doing this. I feel like I did nothing wrong. I was just trying to keep them off the books after telling them several times. Please let me know.
