Identiry theft. Victims?

I was once a victim of identity theft. Someone in germany charge 1500 dollars in scuba diving equipment to my bank account.!!! Luckily the account they chose, i no longer used so it had about 85 cents in it haha. the bank took care of the rest. How about you? Has it happend? what was the out come like? We really need to be more carefull in this day and age!
