Can we by our own effort...?

This question has been bothering my heart for long. All the world religions to me, seem to be an attempt by man to please God, his creator by his own efforts. For instance, Christians go to church regularly, pray, fast and do all acts of goodness trying to please the creator. Muslems also fast, go on holy pligrimage, gives alms (sadaka) and prays 5 times daily in an attempt to please God. Likewise all the other religions perform rituals, mantras, gayatri etc all in an attempt to please the creator. The question now is if we can actually please God by our own effort, and our act of goodness. If it is possible to please Him by our own effort, I guess His standards for all religions must be same. But these standars are not same and might never be same till the end of the world. Please do not preach any religion to us here. Remember that myLot gives no room for religious bigoty or extreemism. Just answer the question and go straight to the point.

Well ilunice, that's how I live...I don't follow any particuliar religion but I am spiritual and the one I try to please most is my conscience... I live by the golden rule of do unto to others as you would have them do unto you. I take every opprotunity I can to spread positivity and fairness. I cause no one any harm and treat others with respect and dignity... If there is a god..I would think and hope he would be a god of love and this would be how he wants us to live...

Hum. Very interesting. But I still find it difficult to put the pictures together. How can one be spiritual without subscribing to any religion. How do you pray and to whom? Atheist do not believe in any God and never pray to any God. They only believe on act of goodness and act likewise. But I guess you believe in God. Maybe the only thing is that you don't think of Go in the perspectives of any religion affliation. Thanks for sharing your thought.

hmm, I definetly wouldn't call myself an atheist, I probably fit more under the catorgory of Agnostic..In which I do feel there is possibly something greater than us..I just don't know what.. Further more, I feel what ever it is, we are a part of it..So I am as much of god as you are...As a whole maybe we are god? I am not sure..It's something I think and wonder about, and try to find the answers within myself rather than take what is given to me by others.. I sort of do pray...I believe I am a co-creator in the universe so I have what I call affirmations I make each day..I simply ask to recognize when I am on the right path..I don't think too much on who I am asking..Sometimes it feels like the universe and sometimes I can see it simply as asking my higher self...I say I am spirtual because I do feel I have a soul...An energy that goes beyond the physical body..

We will never know the answer until the time has come. But as long as you attempt, you will be in good graces.

hi,whoever the god, told same..love all, distribute the love only...but selfish religious heads make it convenient that all people will be in their control forever.so the situation arises like that.Otherwise, jesus, allah, hindu gods told that serve human, love living creature is as equal to as serving god.
