Do you believe that "HEALING" is a state of mind?

I ask this because it has only taken 5 days to feel "normal" after seperating my shoulder. My hands, elbow, shoulder and back were swollen, even my veins were throbbing and swollen. I study various forms of "mental healing" from martial arts and I have to give this credit!...I took NO medications nor therapy and today...I am about 80 percent or so. So is it just a state of mind in your opinion?

Yes, you mind can help you heal. So can the healing powers of others around you. My son healed my toe which I cut badly chasing hislittle brother in flip flops this summer. He made a spider with his finers over the end of my cut toe and the pain went away, he did this several times and it took 6 weeks to heal properly while I kept getting told to go have stitches, there's not even a scar. Every time it hurt he took it away. I hurt my chest a few days ago, their dad put my arm up my back playing fighting with the boys and pulled my pectorial majoris and deltoid. I directed lots of good energy to it every time I tried to move my arm upwards and didn't allow it to stiffen by baking and playing with the dog on the beach. My chest still twinges occasionally but it's bearable, if I had sat still, taken painkillers and felt sorry for myself it would still hurt.

I think it has a lot to do with it. My therapist told me she knows a surgeon who won't do sugery on someonw who's currently depressed because he just doesn't get very good results with them. They take alot longer to heal and the surgery is not as successful.

I believe that a persons mind is more powerful then we give it credit. Your mind can make you sick (panic attacks, depression, etc.) so there really is not a reason as to why it can't make you better. I think that could be a dangerous statement though, I would hate to have someone ignore the proper medical treatment because they rely completely on the power of ones self. Congrats on feeling better so quickly, but be careful that your mind isn't just fooling you into thinking your a lot better just to have your body disagree a few days later.

I think your martial arts training and good muscle condition must have help in the recovery of your shoulder injury .. but I wonder how long it would have taken to recover 'normally' .. shoulder can and do pop in and out of joint .. most unpleasant but can get back to 'normal' fairly quickly ... The main thing is you are in recovery .. and that the shoulder is healing well ... now be careful and stop 'leaping around' while you are sleeping ... :o)

Congrats on healing up so much without taking any meds or having therapy! I am so thrilled to hear that I am not the only one who possibly isn't all that fond of conventional medicine. I think that we ply our bodies with far too much of the stuff *laugh* Plus, I definitely agree with you that the power of the mind can help very strongly in matters of healing. I don't know that it can heal absolutely anything, but a positive mental attitude can definitely make a major impact in almost any situation.

I most certainly believe that much of healing begins in the mind. We can pump one full of medicine and conventional therpaies, but if one doesn't want to believe that they are healed, then they won't be healed! Conversely, one can have a minimial (or no) amount of conventional medicine and become healed, as in your case. I belive very much too in the fact that we can try all we wish to save a person from dying, but if that person has not the WILL to live, our efforts are in vain. I have seen this all to many times in my nursing practice. Congrats on your shoulder by the way. I have a rotator cuff problem at present, and I haven't been to any physician for it, I am trying to rest it for a bit and then will slowly attempt some specific exercises.

We have innate healing process, like what you said it is in the state of mind. It involves faith and belief that you are going to be healed by your ownself. Medications are just supplemental to our healing.

it's your will power and strong determination that heals you and believe faith in God too. Believing in something can make it possible don't you think so? And now you said that you in 80% healed, continue to have this will power, what we are thinking over and over have the possiblity to have a positive effect in our lives.

Actually it does work and mostly you can control the way you feel. Just the mere thinking of being sick makes your condition worst and you will infact get sick, so better think otherwise, and you'd be surprise as to the way positive thinking works.

I definately believe healing is a state of mind...there are numerous cases of ppl healing themselves in seemingly miraculous ways of some hardcore illnesses and or injuries etc solely with mental healing methods...I also feel though that everything is pretty much a state of mind though if that makes sense...I mean pain for example, there are ppl in the world who can snap their limbs or whatever and not feel the pain just because they have retrained themselves/rewired their brains that way whereas most of us have been "programed" or trained from a very young age to react intensely to pain and so on.....

I will just say this....My husband and I have 4 children. Those of you that have children will agree with me that children catch all kinds of illnesses from playing with their friends, going on the equipment at the playground, and just generally not washing their hands enough. Everytime one of my children gets sick, I ALWAYS get sick too. My husband is the type of person who refuses to get sick. Even if his nose starts running a little, he will actually say out loud "I am not sick". And you know what? It goes away so quickly. So, in my opinion, the power of your mind definitely plays a part in the healing process.

It is very true I feel. I too try & avoid medication as far as possible. Even doctors use placebos don't they? They work on a similar concept too. You are fit if you FEEL fit. I believe meditation is a way to cure many things but the only thing we need to be careful about is that we must not get carried away. If we feel we are not going to make it we better rush to the doctor. If we feel we can make it still consult a doctor & wait for improvements. Play safe thats what I am trying to say.

Yes. It's all in your mind. What you think makes what you are. That's why positive thinkings are important. Try to watch what your thoughts and you will realized how much negative self-bombardments thoughts enter your mind every second. Filter them out. Cheers!
