No Spanking Bill

So I just heard about a new bill trying to outlaw spanking for kids 3 and under in California. Do you think the government is getting to involved in our lives by telling us how to parent? Keep in mind the bill bans all forms of spanking even slapping of the hands.

There are some parents who could not stop having started spanking their children. Since the proposed law prohibits spanking children of young age such as 3 years and under, I think it should be passed to prevent impulsive parents to spank their children to the extent of hurting them and no longer as a disciplinary action. Children aged 3 years and under should be taken care of with tenderly love and endearing words even if they commit some mistakes. They should be taught how to do it correctly.

Yes, some couldn't stop if already started, they could no longer control their temper. I spanked my only child when he was about 4 years old.

Parents who couldn't stop spanking their children at 3 years old probably wouldn't be able to stop even if the child was older. Some mistakes can be explained by words and some dangerous mistakes require an immediate reaction. Any parent who wounds their child because of spanking took it to far and should get into trouble.

That is the most dumbest thing I ever heard of. I know when i was little a swift kick in the butt always straitend me out. Who the heck do they think they are. Are they trying to prevent kids from getting abused? Well its not going to work if thats what they think

That's what I thought too. We already have child abuse laws and it still goes on. A spanking is much different then a beating, maybe some people don't know this.

I think discipline is a requirement of parents and they dont do enough of it we should be glad that parents are being parents and not stop them from disciplining children.

government should stop abuse but shouldnt interfere with my disiplining my child. I feel that the government doesnt help me when I am having problems they shouldnt create them for me either.

I think the government is getting over involved in all forms of our lives. Enough is enough. Yes when a child is being abused then stop it but if a mother goes to smack her daughter's hand as she's trying to stick her finger in a light socket then she should be allowed to. I'm really getting tired of the government telling everyone what to do, especially when we are talking about adults. Since when did we, as adults, need super parents to watch over us and tell us what to do with every aspect of our lives? It's time we took back the control and tell the government to but out.

I agree. They are going overboard lately on everything. Telling people they can't smoke in their homes, cars, etc. I don't even smoke but I think this is wrong. People always agree with the government until they step into something they care about. Pretty soon they will be limiting what food to eat and how much we can buy, I bet that would upset a lot of people.

I think that spanking is a great way to straighten kids out, I was punished by spanking when I grew up, and I have turned out to be a very upstanding person. I don't think the government should get involved with how parents raise their kids, unless the child is in danger. Spanking I thing is one of the oldest and best method of discipline, and should be encourage more than it should be frowned apon. Although I do not in anyway promote child abuse, so spanking should only be administered when needed and not all the time for every single mistake. There is a difference between mistakes and intentional misbehavior.
