Why Thomas Jefferson studied the Quran

Thomas Jefferson realized that in order to understand the thoughts of the Muslim pirates that had been taking millions of Africans and tens of thousands of European Christians as slaves. These happened in the Islamic "Barbary" states. This happened over a course of 10 centuries according to author, Ted Sampley" of the U.S. Veteran Dispatch, January 2007. The pirates would cruise the African and Mediterranean coastline pillagin villages and seizing slaves. Older women and (non-Muslim) men who could not be changed would be killed, while the ones that brought the most profit, children and young women, would be taken. He goes on to inform that the "Barbary" states included: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Tripoli. The Muslim pirate slavers also took Americans as slaves, especially since they had lost the protection of England. Are we not to learn a lesson from this very important man of history? Do you know wonder why this information is not taught in the government (public) schools that are teaching our children? What other information is being hidden in the name of "tolerance"? What if we had "tolerated" slavery, or the right for women to vote? Or if we had "tolerated" the view that it is ok for women to be second class citizens? What if we "tolerated" the views of those that considered "separate but equal"? Would we be the America of today? Are we the America that Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr dreamed of? Have we allowed our own personal views to be so dilluted that we will accept everything in the name of tolerance until we no longer have a national identity? How soon after will we allow a dictator to run our country?

Your post is interesting. I have studied this subject a bit in the past. I also wonder about the things they don't teach us in schools. Unfortunately "feelings" are replacing actual thought these days. It is sad and frightening to me that history is being altered because some want to show how tolerant we are. The United States is an interesting country, because we are the first to point out everything we have done wrong in the past, (slavery, womens rights, what happened to the indigenous people here...), but we feel bad to point out what other countries did wrong, or still do wrong, (slavery in muslim countries, Japans attacks on china, korea,..,), because we are sensitive to their "feelings". Well, I for one, judge people as individuals, not groups. I realize that my Wife, who is from Japan, had nothing to do with what happend in the name of Japan in the past. sorry. I think I am getting a bit off subject. The last qustion you ask about how soon we will allow a dictator to run our country... I wonder about this too, have for the last 15 years. I think they are to smart to actually look like a dictator, but if you think about the federal government as a whole, it has become dictatorial of is very close. Do I make sence???

Yes, you are exactly right. The thoughts of the liberal left are that more government is better. That "government" can solve all of the problems for the people. Take the money that people make and re-distribute it. I have no problem sharing my money, that is why I give to my church and charities, but in the name of God and not government. The vast majority of people are happy with the socialist form of government because it has slowly been leaked into their systems through the brain-washing of the liberal left. My husbands family is a mix of English and Native American, while mine are all immigrants from the past 130 years. I definately hold no stereotype of any people group because our famiy is such a blend of each, but more than that I realize that we must unite on every front to be successful. We are all people first and foremost. The sad thing is most people do not want freedom if they have to work for it. Thank you for your response! It is wonderful to know that their are other thinking people out there!
