Gandhiji's birthday came and went away but it sure left with me some reason to stop running with time and to take a deep breath and think...ARE WE REALLY HAPPY??? We have money and all monetary comforts but are we deep down genuinely happy and satisfied.Don't you think we are cheating ourselves by putting up a false image of happiness in front of everyone-husbands lie to wives and vice-versa,parents to children and vice-versa and in the whole process everyone is UNHAPPY.I have started this discussion to help you count the number of times you told the truth and faced its consequences-good ar bad and we shall discuss amongst ourselves.Let's get started with GANDHIGIRI"S no.1 rule- tell the truth.

Gandhi is great! Here are more Mahtma Gandhi quotes: http://en.thinkexist.com/quotes/mahatma_gandhi/ “God has no religion” “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” http://www.quotationspage.com/quotes/Mahatma_Gandhi/ "Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony." "I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent." "The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong." I liked this last site because it categorizes the topic of the quote: http://www.fiu.edu/~fcf/Gandhi.quotes.html "Truth is what the voice within tells you." "Use truth as your anvil, nonviolence as your hammer and anything that does not stand the test when it is brought to the anvil of truth and hammered with nonviolence, reject it." I don't cheat myself at all. I see the beauty in everyday things... wether it's the flowers blooming (which I do take the time to stop and smell), my child's smile and laughter, my husband's efforts to support his family, my sister's generosity... or just a new trick my puppy has learned. I never lie, especially to my loved ones! My hubby is my best friend and my children count on me to guide them. I appreciate all of life's blessings and although I'm monetarily poor, I am rich in life! I can be honest to a fault because I am so candid... And trust me, if I were unhappy ~ the world would know about it! THANKS FOR THE DISCUSSION THOUGH ; )

The first part of the post is to say that I also appreciate Gandhi's 'Words of Wisdom'. I thought I'd add some of my favorite quotes of his and links to even more goodies! The last part was in regard to what the original poster said: ARE WE REALLY HAPPY??? We have money and all monetary comforts but are we deep down genuinely happy and satisfied.Don't you think we are cheating ourselves by putting up a false image of happiness in front of everyone-husbands lie to wives and vice-versa,parents to children and vice-versa and in the whole process everyone is UNHAPPY.I have started this discussion to help you count the number of times you told the truth and faced its consequences-good ar bad and we shall discuss amongst ourselves.Let's get started with GANDHIGIRI"S no.1 rule- tell the truth. I am just an honest, happy person. I never 'fake it', take it for granted, or cheat myself of life's wonders. What is vulgar about that? Which term do you speak of?

I think each person finds their own happiness within themselves in different ways. I also think until you take some time to search for what makes you happy and honestly persue it, you can end up with a very bitter dissatisfied life. Just making money and being comfortable financially doesn't get you there. It's being able to look yourself in the eye in the mirror and liking the person you see.
