what is a good test line size for cat fish or bass

I use 12 to 20 pound line, However I gotta tell ya today I caught a 5+ pound bass and I was using 4 pound spiderwire mono. After this I plan on switching out all my reels to it.

20-30 lbs is okay for cat fish and bass, I ussualy use 25 lbs
