Do you volunteer for work within your community if so what?

October 5, 2006 3:44am CST
These days the spectrum of activities required within a community are very broad. I’ve personally just discovered a ‘voluntary work site’ which was advertised in my local councils leaflet, I’ll put it down as http://www.do-it.org.uk although obviously it wont help people outside of the UK so feel free to input your own links to sites where we can all do a little but more to help our community. I haven't had chance to check out all the opportunities yet that are local to me though there are some that I would very much like to be a part of! Though football training to children is something I've been on the look out for.

I do volunteer work. I work for soup kitchens. I volunteer for the Toys for Tot programs... food shelves and pretty much any worthwhile cause.

I used to do volunteer work with the schools when my son was at the various stages of his education, plus some work with war widows as well as Army Cadets. However now we have moved and are a bit nomadic, I rarely do. Although when we are at our base then I will help out at friends' son's school if needed as both parents work and I know the young one appreciates seeing a friendly face at his school. The world needs volunteers and even being able to give the odd hour or two helps those in need. :)

I work for a newspaper and do most of the writing for them. We often do charity work by sponsoring children who are starting back to school but do not have the clothes or supplies needed. Also, for Christmas we have adopted a family of 5, dad had a heart attack and cannot work at this time. Local businesses are usually glad to give to help someone who is really in need. It makes you feel good when you see all the happy faces.

I'm presently volunteering as the secretary of a community organisation, the secretary of the sports club attached to that organisation and also engaged in translating books from from english to french. that takes quite a lot of my time and although i try my best in evrything i do, at times it becomes difficult, especially when the exams are near (I'm in 4th year undergrad at the University of Mauritius), so i have to manage! But the real problem is when ur parentts dont understand & support your initiatives! thats hard!

I used to volunteer back when I was like 13. I used to go to this convalescent home and visit with the elderly patients. It was nice. Kinda like I had 6 grandmas. :)
