I heard about it while surfing the internet that night (well it was night here, and day over there). When my son woke up the next morning, I broke it to him and he was very upset. How did it make you feel?

Every now and then someone comes along and does something just a bit different or with just a certain flair. Steve did both and spoke to all the kids in the world as well as the kid in all of us. I have been watching nature shows all my life, starting as a kid with Marlin Perkins and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom (please young uns, don't say WHO?). Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin rapidly became my favorites. They did more to raise awareness of our wild friends than anyone else before them. It is a great loss for the world and for me and my family, personally.

I was crushed. Steve Irwin did so much for conservation and endangered species, and his donations and efforts made so much of a difference. I'm glad to hear his wife plans to carry on his work. His methods weren't conventional, but he got people interested and raised awareness about the animals that don't get much attention. I just hope his legacy lives on.
