Didit take a long time (extensive training) or just by hearing the family members talk?

My daughter began talking words when she was about 5 months old, but sentences when she was 12 months. We taught her the menaing of eavch word as she learned so she would use it better than just speaking.

My oldest child started speaking her first baby words when she was past two years old, most of the kids start at one year or before that, so we had to enroll her in school at age 3, my youngest boy started talking before one year old. I think it's not your choice. We as parents sometimes try to push them to do things we want them to do but not what they can do. I think it is better if you give your kids time.

This has varied in my children. My daughter was an early talker, and had a handful of words at 9 months. My first son was 18 months old or so, and pretty much jumped into full sentences once he actually talked. My almost 2 year old is just now getting to the point of talking to where others can understand him and using his words on purpose rather than grunting. Usually a child will pick up language by listening to their family members and by being spoken to.
