I think for the meantime, I'll stick with Windows XP. Vista is visually appealing, but the software compatibility is a major problem. What is the use of a cutting-edge, savvy OS if you can't use most of today's popular softwares with it?

Windows is just coming up with features which is already available with linux for months. If you are talking about the 3D effect, transparent effect and such eye candy just understand that it was introduced on linux through a library from novel called XGL. It first came in suse and now available with almost all the linux distro. Here are the screen shots of these effects on Linux http://www.linuxedge.org/?q=node/59 and http://www.beryl-project.org/features.php. So can you compare the performance of windows with Linux? Vista from what I heard is just a copy of the best parts in Mac and Linux.
