There should be seat belts on busses! What do you all think?

How can it possibly be considered safe to put all those children in one vehicle with no seat belts. In North Carolina you have to wear a seatbelt in your car no matter where you are sitting or what your age is. Why is it any different because you are on a bus?

I think new coaches in England have to have seat belts by law and the old ones have them on the very front seats of coaches. I don't think it is any different from being in a car, you should be provided with a way to avoid injury, I'm sure busses have accidents too. Maybe it is due to the cost of fitting seatbelts into the older vehicles but I'm sure in time it will become compulsary

It is because the construction of the buses is much different than a car. And if I remember correctly some buses have seat belts in the front seats to prevent people from luanching during an accident.

Yeah, there definitely should be some sort of safety belt installed on buses. I remember a lot of occassions while riding the school bus as a kid when the bus had to stop abruptly and I got flung forward or whacked my head off the window next to me. When it's time for my kid to go to kindergarten I don't know if I will let her ride the bus because she's small for her age and could easily get hurt on a bus.

You know, I read once why there aren't seat belts on buses and I can't for the life of me remember why now. It was some safety regulation. Ironic, isn't it, that it's apparently safer to not have a seatbelt on a bus?

Yes, I find it ironic that in Kentucky I can be arrested for driving a car with: (1) an infant not in an approved car seat that is buckled in by a seatbelt (2) having a toddler that is not in a booster seat held in with a seatbelt (3) any members of the car are not in a seatbelt. Yet, for some reason children in a bus are okay to be flying around in an accident...unrestrained by seatbelts. Now pray tell, what is the logic in that comparison!!! Same darn logic that we don't make motorcyclist in Ky wear a helmet!!

I am in agreement with you, school buses nationwide should also have seat belts. Maybe if that was the rule, whenever there is an accident, with seat belt, there is a chance there would be fewer injuries...SS

i agree! i remember being on the bus when i was a young kid and feeling like i could be thrown around when the bus turned a corner or hit a bump. we'd fly up in the air and such. i cant beleive they dont make it mandatory that busses have seatbelts, but you get a ticket here if you are caught w/o one!! i would rather take my kids to school when they are old enough than have them ride a bus with out seat belts. and also, while the bus is moving, alot of kids try and switch seats and things like that and the drivers dont always pay attention to what they are doing. when they are responsible for so many little lives, they should take EXTRA precautions to make sure that OUR children are safe!

Well said, I was thinking that they probably don't have seat belts because then they wouldn't be able to cram 4 or five kids in one seat. They would actually have to spend some money and get more busses and drivers. SORRY AS HE**

yaa ur right becos in car we will put our children in a single seat and we will put a belt in bus there is no belt facility we should look for a new change in busses having a seat belt

Yes in Canada too we have to wear our seat belts. I wonder too why they don't have seat belt for school buses I mean it is as dangerous to drive with kids can stand up any time and be in danger of hurting themselves if the school bus has an accident. Something to worry about.
