If you eat a cheeseburger and fries you will have to walk ...

This was very shocking to discover, especially since I like cheeseburgers and french fries. If a person eats a cheeseburger and french fries (1160 calories) and they want to burn all those calories to keep from gaining weight then they would need to walk over eleven miles or equalivent to 4 or 5 hours to burn off all those calories according to the American Medical Association. Would you be willing to walk that far to burn off those calories just from one cheeseburger and french fries?

no way.first of all like everyone i to like cheeseburger and fries bt thank god my mum is kind of very srtict on the issue of fast foods.she pretty much calls them garbage so the end result i eat fast foods like cheeseburgers very very rarely.that said i guess you can always walk the talk adb burn up all those calories or you can do it in a very relaxing manner.swim, for swimming really helpes tyou to relax and at the same time you will be exercising all parts of your body.see the links below, http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/230431.aspx http://www.annecollins.com/calories/calories-cheeseburgers.htm http://www.nutritiondata.com/

At the moment I wanted to eat them (and I love them too!), I'm sure I could convince myself that it would be worth it to walk that far to work it off! Unfortunately, if I used that rationale for all of the bad food I'd love to be eating, I'd end up walking til this time next year. Of course, if I did THAT, then maybe weight wouldn't be so much of an issue for me! :) Seriously, it's astonishing how many calories are in that stuff, particularly since super sizing became a way of life in America.

Haaaa, I agree with you, the logic to walk after eating fast food would keep me walking for a very long time too. I can only imagine how many calories are added to super sizing! *laugh*

Thankfuly for me i have never really had a hard time burning off calories at all. I am one of those peopel that has a very high metabolism and it tends to just burn it for me. I love fast food and i think that it would be worth it. Although i cook probably 90 to 95% of the time because of my children!

*sigh* one more thing I can cross off my list of yummy foods LOL I used to be able to eat anything but then I used to have the time to go to the gym every morning and burn all those calories off again so that 1160 calories was ok. Since I had my son 16 mths ago getting to the gym is nearly impossible. Darn those cheesburgers are so good too.

Yes those cheeseburgers are so good and I won't give them up and I sure wouldn't walk eleven miles to burn the calories. It doesn't hurt to eat them now and then anyway.

I'm not that concerned with burning off EVERY calorie I intake. We need some of those calories to give us energy throughout the day. I think as long as you stay active and eat in moderation, everything evens out in the end. Also, it depends on the person's metalbolism how many of those calories are actually absorbed into the person's system. For some people, that would just pass right through their system before they absorb any of it. We have to keep in mind that everyone's (ideal) diet and exercise plan varies, so it's best to check with a doctor before going to the lengths mentioned in the original post.

OK....now I have to ask. How far would I have to walk for just the fries? Or better yet, how far would I have to walk for just the burger? Or what if I agreed to eat the burger without the bun? Could I eat the fries and walk much less? LOL Given that I am not allowed to have many carbs because I am borderline diabetic, I would only be able to eat the burger without the bun. So, I would be happy if I could just add the fries. ha ha And even if I were allowed to eat such things...for the purpose of your discussion question, no, I would not want to walk 11 miles to walk off all that I ate. No wonder so many Americans are over weight!

I would walk any day for a cheese burger and french fries! I love cheese burgers and I did not know that it is at least 1160 calories. I don't know if I would walk the total 4 or 5 hours because, my body still needs some of that!! :D

Sure I would! I enjoy a good bacon cheeseburger and french fries!! Would head to the local park and take the long trail! Or head home and head to the garden and work for a couple of hours. That should take care of that! lol. Would be cool for them to post on the reciept what mileage it would take for the meal to be worked off!!

Haaaaaaa now that's a good idea to post on the receipt how long it would take to walk off the calories from their food, LOL. Rather than walking off those calories I think I would rather not have too many hamburgers LOL.

This is really, really depressing! Unless you eat the cheeseburger and fries for your large meal and eat very light for the rest of the day, which would keep you at about 1500 calories; maybe then a "normal" workout and a few days of eating healthy would balance everything out. I refuse to believe that I can never have a giant cheeseburger and fries ever again!!!

WOW!!!! I never read it put like that before. That's amazing, and not in a good way. That makes me glad that I passed up on that double cheeseburger and fries from McDonalds earlier this week that the rest of my family ate. I'm trying to be more careful about what I eat and I won't be having a cheeseburger and fries anytime soon. Thanks for sharing.

it really depends a lot on your size aswell, and whether you are walking up hill or just on a flat surface. personally i wouldnt want to walk that far but i wouldnt mind doing some exercise to try and burn some of it off. over 1000 calories really is quite a lot from just a cheese burger and fries though.

I thought the same thing too, but those calories are from fast food places that use all that grease which have a lot more calories than if we were to make cheeseburgers and fries at home.

That's exactly what I was thinking. And I add all types of vegetables like red peppers, onions and chopped cabbage to my hamburger patties, which makes it even healthier. I also buy this AWESOME tasting bread from the health food store, actually they're buns, but they are super healthy. When I eat homemade burgers and fries, I can actually lose weight. I make my fries in the oven with a little safflower oil and sea salt...YUM.

That also depends a lot on your metabolism. My husband doesnt walk after having a huge hamburger&fries. He naps after it! And he still doesn´t get fat! Lucky b@stard...

Right now I'm trying to drop a few extra pounds and I've noticed that by making better decisions about what I eat really makes a difference. Even at fast food resturants (though no serious person would ever say that it's a healthy chocie) I think we can make choices that are better then other ones. For instance, a salad is better then a BigMac. I like french fries, but I've discovered that I can find satisfaction in eating a few of my husbands fries instead of eating a whole order myself. That is a long way to walk and I'm not sure that I'd really think it was worth it, but there are days when nothing really sounds as good as a great cheeseburger, french fries (and of course a chocolate shake!).

I don't eat unhealthy things so that makes it easier on me, plus I love walking so I burn alot of calories too. I think it's not only the calories, it's the nutritional value that's messed up, if you would walk 4-5 hours you wouldn't burn the cheeseburger you would use something else you ate that's more nutritious so the body could convert it to energy, some of the cheeseburger (usually the unhealthy parts) will stay in your system even after 4-5 hours of walking.

It appears that the AMA disagrees with you where burning calories are concerned. Thanks for your response.

As someone else pointed out it all does depend on your size and metabolism. If you are still in your teens and young your metabolism may still be high and you may not need to walk as much. As i am like that i have a very high metabolism and I do some extreme sports such as Freestyle BMX, Paintball, and skateboarding. So i do actually end up losing weight from me excersising by burning more then those calories so i hardly ecer gain weight even when i eat a Double Quater Pounder With Cheese, Fries, and a Coke Super Sized.

That's cool for you but the point is this: there are all those calories in a cheeseburger and fries. The AMA stated that if a person were to eat them it would take eleven miles of walking to burn the calories off. Would you be willing to do that?
