House Hunting!

Ireland

I am going crazy house hunting at the moment. I was so sad today because I found this house that suited my family here down to the ground. Anyway this house ticked all the boxes, I fell in love with it and now today the auctioner tells me someone else bid higher than the asking price and if we want it we have to bid higher than them. Maybe someone did bid higher than the asking price but it seems to be a regular occurance here in Ireland. The auctioner people always want more so they hike up the price to see if you'll pay more. Well we can't afford it so I just told him no. He said he'd ring back on Monday to see if we changed our mind. Is it like that where you live and is there any way to get a good deal on a house? We tried to bargain at first but that didnt work! :0(

Were in the process of moving and I know it could be a big hassle.

My wife and I just bought our first house and that was a chore. In fact, the first time we went house hunting, we actually gave up and didn't start again for another year. The problem we had was house prices here are inflated due to incoming businesses. We couldn't afford much over $100,000 and every house we looked at had a major defect to it. In fact, before we bought this house, we had to make the owners replace the roof first.
