Transferring video tapes to hard drive.

Just bought a large capacity hard drive and want to record all my analogue and digital video tapes and still digital pictures onto it, so I can keep them and view them on a pc that the hard drive can be connected to. I would hope that I could just switch the videocam on, plug it in to the pc and it just happens. At a later date I'd like to be able to edit, dub and generally professionalise the recordings.
