Bloody NHS - a long one as am not happy.

On the 5th january 07 my waters broke and i went into labour, or so i thought, i went to hospital in bristol uk so they could examine me to find out if they had gone and the nurse said yes they have and was sent home and told to come back when the contractions were between 3 and 4 mins apart so thats what i did, when i got back to the hospital after a whole night of pain at around 7am on the 6th jan 07 they tried telling me i was not in labour yet and to go back home until pain is alot worse by this time i was crying in pain and they did not care but i refused to go home and they eventually gave in and gave me a bed on the ward and two paracetemal for the pain these did bugger all. i spent all day on the ward having strong contractions but being completely ignored by all the midwives as i cried and screamed through each contraction, at 2.30pm my midwife gave me pethidine which did nothing for the pain it just made me drowsy as hell which was no good as i was being woken up with pain every few mins. the midwife kept telling me i was not in full labour and she could not examine how far dilated i was cos my waters had broken and she didnt want to cause an infection.... at 6.30 pm she finally listened to me and examined me and found out my waters had NOT broken and i was fully dilated so i was then rushed down to the birthing suite and they had me pushing straight away i had no time to be given any pain relief, my beautiful baby girl was finally born after just 40 mins....... Any other bad stories? am interested how other people are treated in hospitals was it just me??

WTF??? My water broke @ 2:30am , I arrived at the hospital @ 3am & they did a test (twice b/c they messed up the first & I knew it, so I requested the second). They examined me throught my labor (with gloves to prevent infection). I was admitted at only 3cm dialted bc my water had broke & they wanting to make sure an infection didn't happen. You definately got bad care. I'll post my horror story later, my son woke up, so off to the laundrymat for me, LOL

My orginal response was about when I had my son. The doctors were great! :) With my daughter my OB was a monster! Not 1 u/s by 33 weeks. She didn't even show any concern when she was barely moving. My husband believed everything was ok, because she said so, I decided it was time to just go to the ER. The ER rushed me up to the maternity ward (because of how far along I was). I was hooked up to several monitors and they showed that her heart rate that my OB had said was all the indication she needed that all was well showed my daughter was in distress. To get a better idea of what was going on they also did an u/s - and VOLIA! there was a problem with her intestines. They tried to stablized us so we could be transfered to a hospital better equippied to perform surgery on my daughter once she was born, but once they realized they couldn't they delived by emergency c-section & airlifted her to the other hospital. My c-section was a nightmare. I had had an epidural when having my son, but this time around was completely different. For one I was having a c-section, so my hands were tied down, then after the medicine was given the surgeons started checking my tummy to see if it was numb yet by pinching my stomach. Once they waited for awhile they started operating wihout checking once more. So I felt the scapel make that first incision, it was HORRIBLE! Thankfully the nerves were severed & everything quickly went numb. But that still wasn't the end I started shaking real bad & vomiting & got real bad tunnel vision & everything sounded distorted - like I was underwater. The pain had gotten so bad even the morhine drip didn't help after the surgery. Oh & my OB could have found out what was wrong b/c the doctors said from the extent of the damage to my daughters insides started at about 30 weeks. And the doctors at the hospital I delivered at were at a different hospital than my OB, so my OB wasn't there when my daughter was born :)
