Why dislike the French?

Why do Americans dislike the French? I'm taking French for my language class and when I tell others they make fun of it. It's a great language with so many different cultures. I have grown to appreciate it even with the criticism. But I would still like to know what people have against them.

They are unwilling to fight for themselves, they do not like americans even after saving their butts 2 times in one centry from germany. Their females don't know what a razorblade is, and they think their socity is so much better than any place else.

I think you must mean the brits? They surely are the ones with more prejudice towards the french people, though I believe it's nothing personal, really. Just traditional disliking or rivalries between two neighbour countries like in elsewhere in the world. I also think french is a beautiful language and miss it these days that I don't study it anymore.
