Virus!!how to protect my files?

Have you encounter this..each time you open your files it replace the files in .exe form. My files made in word but when i tried to open it, a .exe files appear and replace my files from "files.doc" to "files.doc.exe". What should i do to fix this bug?Do i need to reformat my whole drive and reinstall a fresh operating system?Need advice...Thanks..
