What time of day do you do your best writing

I've been trying to set myself up with a daily time out to sit and work on the two books I am currently working on. Sometimes I will sit there and stare at a blank page for an hour or so at which point I give up for the day. The inspiration is there but the words don't come yet the way I see it, it is setting up a daily ritual to set aside some time and put pen to paper. I've also come to realize my best time of the day to sit back and write is first thing in the morning after sitting down with my first cup of coffee, normally around 6:30 in the morning. I've tried writing in the evening after coming home from work and doing the chores at home before sitting down to relax for the night but othing comes; I think it's being mentally tired from the day. What time of day do you do your best writing? Are you a morning person or night owl or do you do your writing anytime through the day?

I too am good in the morning because we are rested and ready to take on the day. Were as night Im so tired I just go to bed early. A problem I have when I get tired sometimes I tend to start laughing and things are not that funny. So If I were to sit down and write it just wouldnt make any sense. Good luck to you on your writing.

Goodday FeralCat I have different time of day when I can write differently. If I need to write technical stuff I have to do that within the first 3 or 4 hours of the day. I have a heart condition that saps my energy pretty quick so the hard stuff has to come early. I drink a lot of coffee early in the day to try and keep my energy level up but it doesn't help much. NOTE: When I find myself sitting with a blank mind I will start writing on a different topic and in no time my mind is thinking of things on the first topic and I am back to work. :) If I want to write from my heart which can be emotional I like to write later in the day when my energy level is lower and I am much more emotional.

i seem to have the worst timing when it comes to writing. It usually hits me around midnight, and then I'll stay up til the wee hours pounding away at the keyboard. Sure, I get a lot done, but it really sucks because I have to get up with my daughter everymorning at 8:30am. I wish I could write while she napped or earlier in the evening- oh well, i manage :)

I usually write after my hubby goes to work. So, I am usually at it about 9 in the morning. For me, it really depends on my mood. But then poems are all about emotions anyway. Late morning/early afternoons do me just fine. I try to get the dogs walked first and then just go to the computer room and write. I do not compose on the computer though. I write everything out long hand first. I will edit it on the computer and then do the re-write. There is just too much going on in the evenings to write.

well personally i prefer the day time to write what i think about or just leave posts. It's the time of day that i consider me being fully awake.

It all depends on what is in my mind. It does not matter what time of the day it is, id just depends on what is in my head.

Yes sir! First thing in the morning is great. One thing you can do, rather than staring at a blank page is type something. Just start typing nonsense so you don't have to look at the blank page. Just having something there on the page sometimes helps and gets your creativity jump started. You can always go back and delete the jibberish if you want to, but sometimes it brings good ideas.

well i dont have a specific tme of day that i write. i just do when ever inspirtaton hits me. i also have somewhat giving up on writing on paper. because i am an extremely slow writer at which point i lose all my ideas. so i have began typing which i am faster at. its somuch easier. my problem is, my family is always around and i prefer to write in complete silence or with celtic music playing.

Definitely the night time. I'm just so much more relaxed at night than I'm at day. To tell you the truth, I don't put that much effort into my posts when I'm posting in the morning. It's really bad. But I have a lot of time to think in the night however and therefore, my posts are much more relevant to the discussion.

I am a night person when it comes to writing. I specially like the silence of the night, it makes me think faster. Also, there are no people who will distract, disturb or interrupt me because they are all asleep. Not unless there are emergencies. However, I've been trying to change my style since, I believe, that having enough sleep is very important and that sleeping in the morning cannot replace the hours of sleep you've lost when you were awake all night.

Same as what you said. When I did National Novel Writing Month last November, I found that it was easiest for me to write just after I got up. I would go get a cup of tea in the morning, and then I would try to hit 3000 before everyone else got up (around 7:30 or 8:00). I think my mind is freshest then, and I haven't had much time to think about all the other things I could be doing (taking a walk outside, eating, playing games on popcap...). I do pretty well with studying at that time of day as well. Near the end of the day I usually find the momentum to write as well, but not on the computer. I prefer to write in a notebook if it's later in the day - not sure why.

my friend i think writting is expression of thoughts. and it can only come out when we are a peace of our mind. now that depends on the charastaristics of an individual. with the thoughts of your i think it will b best in the morning witha sip of coffee giving words to your thoughts. if you ask about me, then i would say that night silence makes my real me come out. so i prefer to write at the night. hope you finds my words helpful. take care n happy writting. tell me how was your exp.

With me, the best time for writing is in the night. At that time, I have no trouble with the phone, the noise...I am only to concentrate into paper. I always have a cup of coffee for writing so I have never been sleepy. So you can say that I am a night person. The morning time is only the time for learning by heart or doing morning excercise.

I do my best writing in the afternoon after i eat lunch and am very awake. I find that food helps you think and you can write easier and faster.
