Major religions of the world, do they actually differ?

I read many books (Bible, Upanishads and Quran etc.,)related to major religions and also history of these religions. One thing I found about all these religions is they are all one and the same. At the core of any of these religions, I see only one intent "Appreciate value of life and how to better it". Many current age priests or preachers may differ and prononce that their religion is different from other and say bad things about other religions. I hope these people read all religions and history of religions.
