What is a Myth? Why do so many myths of different cultures have similar stories?

I think to make more like original, on what their country's are known for. It started from myths, to superstitions, folk beliefs then urban legends. Here, superstitions and folk beliefs is evident by controlling the individual, inhibiting or stimulating them into a behavior acceptable to the group. It serves to promote social cohesiveness.

well, according to our lit classes, myths are stories that had been passed from a generation to another. most myths tackle with gods and goddesses or creation, while others are transformed to what we call now as urban legends...
