What in the world is a Blackberry (not the fruit)?

What do they do? What can they do? What can't they do? Are they the same or better than an iPod? I need glasses to read, are the figures/letters/numbers tiny? If they are - then whats the sense of owning one?

a Blackberry is more or less the same functionalities with PDAs or palmtop. you can read your e-mails, it can also be used to call contacts from your BB to other phones. you can also send text messages using your BB.
