Try Michael Connelly or Lisa Gardner. They both write great crime fiction and their books have recurring characters. Some of the best books I've ever read are by people I've never heard of (and can't remember afterward). Good luck with your rummaging - and let us know if you find some good authors.

If you like Mary Higgins Clark, then I think you would enjoy Danielle Steel and Nora Roberts. They write about the same way as she does. Another couple favorite authors I just love are Beatrice Small and Fern Michaels. Good reading!!

All of Nicholas Sparks' books are basically love stories but usually with a little twist. They're pretty inspirational also. I've read almost all of his books. Some of them have been made into movies like Message In a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, and The Notebook (excellent).

One of my favourite authors at the moment is PJ Tracy. They are great crime novels with recurring characters and there are some really funny moments too

Look up Robert fulghum's books, especially All I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten. It's the book that got me started in reading, and I think you will like it too.
