What part of New York? I moved up to a small NH town from Long Island. A big change but very worth it. The cities such as Nashua, Manchester and Concord are different than the smaller towns.

I have lived in New Hampshire my whole life. I live in the southern part of the state on the coast. The southern part of the state is more built up than the northern. The big cities are Nashua, Concord and Manchester. I grew up in a town called Portsmouth. It is right on the ocean and is a city with alot of history. It is not a big city but has most everything you need. Alot of people live in Portsmouth and commute to bigger cities for work like Boston, Mass. New Hampshire has no income or sales tax except meals and hotels but you do pay more on property taxes. If you move up to the northern part of the state it is more rural and there are the White Mountains. It all depends on where you plan on moving to.

You're in for quite a big change! Where in NH will you be living? My brother moved up there from NY state about 20 years ago, and I have visited him often. It is a beautiful area of the country, for sure. Lots of lakes, rivers, mountains, woods. If you like the outdoors then you will LOVE it up there. My brother lives in a very small town, and I always feel like I'm at summer camp when I'm there. They live in a log home which is surrounded by woods. It's beautiful, but a bit too rural for me. Except for the bigger cities, especially in the southern part of the state, a huge part of NH is rural. I hope you like it- Good Luck!

chiming in here a mere 45 miles from the canadian border (as the crow flies). Im from up "nawth". My parents moved us here from just outside of Hartford, Ct when i was 15. I hated it then. I love it now. For what it doesnt have up here it more than makes up for it in what it does. GORGEOUS scenery, you can drive for over an hour in any direction and never see anything even closely resembling even a large town, I know a large number of the population in my town including cops, town officials, etc. Theres a very different way of life up here you just cant get anytwhere else.
