So I NEEEDDD help!! What is the best and fastest way to potty train a puppy?! We are living in a rental so we don't want the carpet to get ruined and smelly, so we need to house break this puppy we just got! I would really, really appreciate any methods...I just am not to fond of the idea of rubbing it's face in it....mean. Anyway, thank you in advanced!

You are absolutely right, rubbing their faces in it is mean and accomplishes nothing. Buy a crate, check with you vet for the best size. Keep it in a family area. Feed your pup, take him/her outside immediately after. Go for a walk. When the pup pees or poops, get excited and praise the pup. Our comands are 'Get Busy' and 'Poopie'. When the dog is peeing say 'Good, Get busy' same thing when they poop. Make sure your pup is tired when you get back him. Put the pup in the crate for a nap. As soon as they wake up, back outside. Same routine. Pretty soon you see that as soon as your pup go out and feet him the ground (With young ones I found carrying to be a safe bet) they will soon pee and poop. You are not out of the woods yet, but if the pup is not being watched or is alone, use that crate. They don't like to mess in their house and the crate will prevent that, of course if you are gone too long there will be accidents. Starting adding in more words, like 'Go outside' and if you ask them, they will respond. My one guy will stare at me, we have a list of words - eat, cookie, carrot, outside, walk and when we hit the right one, he starts bouncing like a pup. The crate is also a good place to put the dog if you are expecting the pizza guy or workmen or to prevent chewing. And don't worry, they don't see it as a punishment. Think of a wolf and a den this is the domestic version of a den.
