Why are children becoming obese?

What do you think are the main reasons? Are video games to blame: Entertainment is provided inside without the need to venture out? Are parents to blame: Not letting their kids outside to play sports, and being over protective? Is fast food to blame: High sugar content and low in nutritional value, with the added convinience for parents, that don't have to cook? What do you think?

I think all of those examples are the problem. But I believe the biggest reason is the parents not making sure their children spend enough time doing physical activites. I am very lucky in that all of my children love to be outdoors playing. My son loves to play his video games too, but when I see him sitting in front of it for to long, I lay the law down and make him go do something else.

I find children who are overweight also have parents with weight issues, or are parents who don't seemt to care whether their child is eating and watching TV, or getting out and exercising.

Kids these days seems to be damn lazy, probably as a result of their parents being lazy. But often they don't do anything and then their parents just buy them Maccas, its a bad cycle

I believe its a combination of everything you said. Kids today would rather stay inside and play video games and the parents let them. We have to almost force my 14 year old stepson outside. Now when my son was his age, he was always outside playing. I had a hard time getting him to come in. I think part of the problem is that in a lot of families, both parents have to work, so fast food/convenienece foods are used more than they were in the past.

i think the parents and the child themselves are more the ones to blame. you can't blame video games and fast food since those things are completly optional. you also can't blame the schools or other people. its the parents job to teach the child a healthy lifestyle and its the childs job to keep it up after a certian age. fast food is okay to eat. my kids eat it once a week when we go out. my kids are not obese but very active. the rest of the time, they have a home cooked meal. they don't eat all of their vegtables, but at least its a decent amount during every meal. they watch tv and play games sometimes, but they can never sit still long enough and are normally running around. people have to stop blaming others for their own problems.

I think it is a combination of all those things....ready made foods like snack bars, chips, even breakfast cereals are now loaded with sugar and when you combine this high kilojoule intake with limited physical activity you get weight gain.

My thoughts are that it is because of the fast food restaurants so easily available, and that children find playing video games more fun than being outside.

I think all that you stated are true. I hope more parents realize that exercise and proper diet is important in keeping their children healthy, and that they should set the examples themselves.
