A Question To All Who Have Sent Me Friend Requests...

United States
January 23, 2007 2:05pm CST
I woke up this morning with twenty eight new friend requests. In the space of a mere six hours, twenty eight people had asked to friend me. As I stared at the page, assaulted by usernames and avatars I didn't recognize, one question repeated again and again in my mind. Why? Why me? Do my discussions really garner that much interest? Are my replies - sometimes witty, more often b*tchy - truly that inspiring? I'm honestly curious. What made you click that little 'add as friend' link? And, more importantly, did you check out my profile beforehand? And if you run and check it now and claim you did beforehand, I'll know.

I end up rejecting at least 3-4 friend requests each day. Apparently, people see a high post total and think they can make more money by being your "friend."

That... doesn't answer my question at all. Have you even sent me a friend request?

That's something you should be proud of. You're popular and so many wants to be your friend. Approving so many friends wont hurt your points at all. So why deny them. Maybe one of the reasons of being here is to make friends, since this is a community.

And why will you be sending me a friends request? I'm just wondering why my posts seem to appeal to so very many and very different people. Or if it's some other reason.

To be perfectly honest I saw some of your posts, and I know you're a lesbian. I liked what I saw, and I said why not make a friend that has something in common with me? I haven't made to many friends on here, so I'm looking to find some with similar interests.

Well, thank you! I've actually made some good, sincere *friends* here, which is nice. There are people I talk to through email and always chat with, which is nice.

Maybe because they know that you can share your opinions and give them a whoopin' while stating your point!;) Or maybe they expect you to respond to some of their discussions and shed a light on their queries.

Not sure if you want to open this to people whose requests you've already approved, but for me, I kept seeing your name as the starter for various discussions...Many were highly interesting to me, a few weren't. So, I checked out your profile, read some of your discussions, and thought you'd be a great person to have on the friends list...Generally, I look at the discussions my friends have posted before looking at others.

Oh yes, this is open to everyone who has sent me a friends request, ever! I'm just wondering why I get so many. And your response is the response I'm hoping to see most often.

I'll be perfectly honest with you, since you are the honest sort. I've run across your topics every day since I joined two weeks ago. At first, I thought, "wow, this person says what she means and means what she says, I like that". Then, I thought, well, maybe she's a bit too edgy for me. So, I waffled and wavered and decided that I couldn't deny the fact that I really appreciate your writing style, your wit and your forthrightness. I decided to take the chance that you didn't think I was an idiot. That's when I submitted my friend request.

Hello Misskatonic I dun think you appreciate this meddling...but i could not help when i saw ur post. As your question is to all who have sent you friend request it should not be answered by other ppl as I guess. I have never sent u a friend request and never came across ur post. But now m gonna send you one knowing that I will be rejected. LOL.......

That's pretty much the point of this - ensuring that people actually know who I am before they friend me.

That works for me! I'm just glad to know that the majority of folks actually give a hoot about what I have to say, and aren't just trying to make a quick buck with their scam invites and whatnot!

It certainly wasn't intended to get more friends (I've lost count of how many I have!) but it seems to be working anyway. Yes, that is me. And I do suspect that my profile pics have something to do with so many of my requests, but only two people have been willing to admit it so far!

You had it. I hope you never read her profile. If you post a single line reply you get a negative rate. That is fine since no serious writer would like to be reviwed in a single line comment. You are new here. hopefully you may be spared.

I checked your profile first. I always do as a matter of course. Both for curiosity's sake as well as to avoid spammers. As for why, it had nothing to do with any particular point of view or opinion or even common interests. It's because someone who can think stands out like a dove among crows and I notice that and would hate to pass up an opportunity to focus my attentions here on that rather than the endless drivel you see on the new posts page.

The reasons I asked you to be my myLot friend are exactly what you describe: your "sometimes witty, more often b*tchy" comments and topics. Even if I don't always respond to your discussions -- because I have nothing constructive to add -- this doesn't mean that I don't read them and enjoy them. Keep posting! :)

I did indeed read your profile prior to initiating a myLot friendship. I think that, at the time, I had spotted several of your topics during the course of a week or so, and, having caught my interest, I decided that their author might be someone to keep an eye on. I belive I was right. :)

I read through some of the responses to this question, but not all, so I don't know if my reason is the same as anyone else's. Honestly, the reason I requested you as a friend was because I saw your name in the "Top Discussions" list a lot. When I went to your profile, I saw a lot of interesting topics that you had started and all of them had pages of replies. I wanted to be able to read your discussions and responses when I had time, and figured the only way to keep track was to add you as a friend. I love the fact that your answers are always well thought out and honest, whether you agree with the topic or not. I know a lot of people here are afraid to post when they disagree with a topic because they think it will affect their ratings.

I added you because I saw your name alot and finally went to your page. You have a lot of good topics even though sometimes I seem to have nothing to comment on them about. I don't really know what drew me to you other than that and you had an interesting pic.
