I'm a little disappointed with myLot's users :( I'm not one of those people who complain that no one replies to their topics, I'm rather one of those people who complain that they reply to other people's topics and never hear back from the topic starters. I'm not here to make money, money is just a nice incentive to posting. I would like to have fun, serious, informative or helpful conversations. But most people don't carry conversations in their own topics. I frequently receive friend requests and try to post to their topics, but not only do most of them not post to my topics, they don't even post to their own. Posting just a reply, getting $0.01 cents and moving on to the next topic to make another $0.01 just isn't motivating for me. I like to chit-chat with people, get their insights, get information, hear about their stories, hear their suggestions, agree or disagree with them. But this isn't happening in myLot, at least not in most of the many topics I've replied to. If you look at the topics I've started and replied to, you'll notice I almost always reply back. I try to get conversations going, but it isn't happening. And that's disappointing. Please make an effort to make conversations happen, more than worrying about making an extra cent or two. That's all I wanted to say :|

These are my sentiments exactly. I too have always gone back to my responses to see if the poster had left a comment and when I haven't seen one, I got the impression that the poster hadn't even bothered to read my response. I would much prefer to stay in one place and have a discussion rather than to move on and post another response for the sake of a cent. It would take me about eight hours to earn just the price of a cup of coffee (a cheap one - probably without milk), so why bother killing myself for that. I'm Irish, I kissed the Blarney, and I have the gift of the gab, so I like to converse. So far SplitZip, you are the only one person who has carried on a conversation on my topics and I think you are one of the few people who have the right idea of what MyLot should be all about. Almost midnight here now, so I am off to bed. Talk to you to-morrow.

This is what I feel sometimes too, when people don't reply back. If they haven't read my reply, then my time and effort was wasted (hence, more of that disappointment). Thanks for your reply and compliment, it has been nice, so far to chit-chat with you on those other topics. I'm not irish, but I do love to yap with other people, if those people feel like yapping back :) Oh my, look at the time! I should get going too (I'm on GMT as well :).

I know what you mean SplitZip, it can be so disappointing when you ask a question and never get an answer! I had this experience once when someone put up a recipe and I liked it but had a doubt. I asked them and they didn't reply days on end. One fine day they did, and that too not answering my question but with a "Thanks for responding to my discussion" !!!! I was so disgusted and immediately realised that person was here just to make money and didn't care if anyone read the recipe or for what we responded. It's a pity everybody is on the run and don't care to check back for comments. I sometimes feel bad myself that I can't check every repsonse I've made to see if someone has left a comment. I am well on my way to making a 1000 posts and it is nearly impossible for me to locate my own response I've made in all the discussions. I definitely take a quick peek when I come across any discussion I've already responded to. I wish myLot had a search feature within the "discussions I've responded to" section to make looking up certain discussions easier.

Yes, another person has also mentioned something along these lines and I agree, myLot's posting system is less than perfect :\ To make things worse, the page of "topics I've replied to" is no longer properly for me... when someone posts to a topic it no longer get bumped to the top of the page, so it's now even more difficult for me to track replies and keep discussions going. "Thanks for responding to my discussion!!!" :D No, really :)

I agree with you split but the only thing is that not everyone thinks like you. I was introduced to mylot so that I could make some money as I am a housewife and have lots of time to spare, but after being here for not more than 15 days. I have become addicted to it. Infact I just wait for my husbnd to leave so that I can post my opinions and check what replies my fellow members have posted on my questions.

I'm glad to see that more people do this. MyLot is great to kill some time, reading and replying to topics. It's easy to lose track of time, sometimes... Some people who are at home get lost online and forget about their house chores :D But I think that there are some more effective ways to earn money online than myLot, for homemakers who want to have an extra income?

Hi SplitZip, you would find every kind of people in myLot and that's the beauty of it. The term money makes the world goes around it's not just a term, but it does! People are unique, and we should respect them. If you look around, there are some people who are just like you as well. Looking for a good chat, exchanging ideas, thoughts and dreams. Come on, don't get dissapointed it can be contagious. Cheer up and be happy.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not saying otherwise, just that this site would be much better if there were plenty of on-going discussions. This site seemed teeming with good discussions when I joined, but now it's almost like they are dying out. Every now and then I have a good discussion with someone, but with almost 400 posts, the actual discussions are only a handful. I'm sure that, if they awarded follow-up replies, people would be more encouraged to post them. But they are not, I've even seen people asking why others reply to topic replies, if they're not paid for. And that's also disappointing! If I can't find good discussions I'll just leave. And people leaving a certain forum can be contagious as well! Another problem is that good discussions sometimes get many, many replies. If you post to them, your reply will get buried under all the other replies and nobody will ever read it (on my topics that had too many replies, I actually read them all). So very often I see a good topic, but find no reason to contribute to it. And that's also disappointing. In part, this is also myLot's system's fault. It's not very functional...

I totally agree with you. Not that making money isn't great too, but being able to share you opinions and ideas, make new friends, and help provide information to others is far more of an incentive for me. Seriously it is only one cent. It's so much more rewarding to hear peoples two cents.

It would be nice to have conversations back and forth with people but some people here are only interested in money and not much can be done about that. There are some that do like to have a good chat about certain things. Also people are busy with their daily lives with their families so they may not get back to you right away. I try and get back to the responses people have on my posts but sometimes it takes a while due to my work schedule and other activities outside of my home.

Of course, I don't expect them to get back to me RIGHT AWAY. I don't even expect them to get back to me at all, but I mean, if other people have also posted and they don't reply to them either, something's wrong...

I hear you! I'm not here for the money at all- don't even know how all that works. I just look forward to good conversation and have found it with 3 or 4 people (yourself included). It's frustrating. I feel like I'd be much better off chatting with the select few, than posting my discussions to receive a reply of 'I think so' or 'yeah'. I've had mylot rage on occasion. Keep the faith.

A great idea, if you have the time to invest into it. But, I just don't see this site as being as much about socializing as it is about the exchange of ideas and information. I don't use MyLot as an income source, though it was introduced to me as such. But, I think if I had endless hours available, I would reply to other's posts to "carry on the conversation".
@SplitZip (1488)

24 Jan 07
A forum is necessarily about socializing. Even the most technical forums end up having some degree of "social" interaction between its users. This would be a technical forum, to share solutions, if people were posting questions like the ones on, say Yahoo answers. But most topics here are of a social nature. You don't need endless hours to carry on a conversation, you can carry a conversation during the course of several days, weeks or even months. That's the beauty of a forum, as opposed to a realtime chat system. People spend endless hours posting topics (to the point of spamming) just for the sake of a little money and to me, that's wasted time :| Thanks for your reply as well.

I agree with you. I actually signed on here because I thought it would be a place to go and meet people and exchange ideas. And just generally have a nice time chatting about topics of interest. Instead nobody seems to respond to anything you post, whether its in response to a topic I posted or my response to someone elses post. I still check everyday, just in case someone has responded and a real conversation might start out of it, but generally not much luck. Its not as if there is enough money being made here that taking a few moments to respond back to someone would hinder that. Oh well, I am done ranting now too. LOL

Hi. I'm quite a newbie here in mylot but i enjoyed posting responses right away. From time to time now, i check back those comments i have posted (which are yet quite few) and its nice to feel and know that the topic starter responded back to my comments. It means that he or she actually read my comments.. So as for me, its not just the earnings but the fun of exchanging ideas and views.. I hope that also goes to all mylot users and members. Thanks for this observation. P.S. I have started one discussion which earned quite a number of responses. I make sure that i read all of the comments and rate and respond to each as necessary as i can.

Welcome to myLot then :) I try to do the same as you do... I'm actually a bit surprised when some of my topics get many replies, it's a little intimidating even! But I like to read and reply as much as possible. Like you, I also rate (proper) replies, at the very least. Maybe, when a reply is rated, there should be some sort of notice about this. That way the poster would know it had been read (I guess this could possibly be exploited by bots though...). Thanks for replying!

I totally agree with you and i often comment on similar points whenever i respond to discussions started about how to make more money. Although that is still an influence for me and i want to maximise the amount i do earn from each post if myLot stopped paying out i would still use the site. I think that there are so many interesting interlectual conversations out there. I have already learnt new things here and im sure with time i will become a better more rounded individual from this site. It would be silly to say that money has no effect but for me, like you the content is far above this.

I agree 100%. I get very irritated when people don't reciprocate or at least respond to the replies to thier own topics. Sure, the little money we make is nice, but I have fun here making friends, contacts and even getting on with a good debate. Feel free to pop by and chat anytime. I'm around...

i agree with you. i've made one thread only uptil now, but i did make sure that i try my best to respond to almost everyone who replied. in a way, i think it means that you show respect to those who've taken the time to post, and honour their views. initially even i was here only for the money, i mean, i was making sure that my responses remain good enough to fetch cash, but then i saw that quite a few genuine people were here posting genuine stuff. i mean, they meant what they were posting, and actually wanted either help, or a noteworthy response. it's good if you feel this way. yes, a lot of the discussions do seem meaningless, but someone sometimes comes up with something insightful there as well. it's those people that one should keep a lookout for. and it always feels good if someone takes the time to respond to an ongoing discussion, and gives an answer or two after that as well.

I'm glad some people post, like you said, genuine things, because otherwise, this site would be a little creepy. Imagine if the site's topics were only those bot-generated ones. People would still make money, yes, maybe occasionally one bot would post something useful, but it would be like a desert. If a myLot user posts a reply to a topic and there's no one around to read it, does it make a sound? ;)

I think maybe mountainchow was trying to make an amusing pun! :) I suppose on certain occasions a LITTLE money can bring you happiness, for example, one time I was hungry and all I had were 60 cents on me and every shop around was closed, so I bought a small pack of Maltesers from a vending machine and it brought me a lot of happiness ;)

Hey I'm with you on this. Are people really that desperate to earn a few more cents than they are to talk and make friends, what's going on with the world. Since I joined 2 days ago I've really enjoyed giving a bit of advice here and there, in fact I haven't really had time to count cents. I haven't made any friends though, do you have to ask if you can be someones friend or how does it happen? If you join in a discussion are you supposed to be that persons friend????? Help me try and understand this site as it's not clear what really goes on. I like to chat and share views, plus give and receive advice so I'll just carry on and see what happens!
@ginagee (843)
26 Jan 07
thanks for that, I'm sure I'll get the hang of all this eventually!! As I've been reading through peoples comments there seems to be two types of people, those in it for the money and those in it for the chat. It doesn't seem a very good way of earning money to me as you'd have to be on this all day every day surely??? Madness! But I do like discussions and putting 'my bit' in. It's been really nice actually to receive comments back from my advice and it made me feel good that some people bothered to reply. It made my day - see - I'm easily pleased ha!
