is torrents illegal ?

many of my friends are telling that torrents are illegal , but i use them daily . i dont understand if it was illegal then why 100's of torrents reamains healthy ?

Torrent is not actually illegal. It is a technology to share files using the P2P technology. Many famous companies still uses torrents to share their files. So if it was illegal they would have not used it. Many people uses a technology to do illegal activities and that what happened with torrents too. There are many sites which provides illegal software torrents, copyrighted movies and music etc. Downloading such things are definitely illegal.
