Last Time You Picked Up a Book

I read books all the time, mostly just because I want to! I just finished one and am waiting for an order to come in. I can read 6-7 books a week. ( I read very quickly) When it comes to research though, I use the internet unless I have to use a book. The internet is so much easier to use and find information in and you don't have to look through a ton of stuff just to get close to what your looking for.

Books are good but just the process of finding something you actually want to read, buy , or take out of the library is what stops me most of the time. Like you said the internet makes that whole process alot simpler, and then most of the time if you don't like what you're reading you don't feel obligated to finish because you see all of the pages in front of you. i support ebooks over paperbacks any day.

I read all the time. Books maily entertainment for me. If I want to find a book or research a certain subject, I will use the net. But there is nothing like curling up with a good book.

I picked up a book today. I love to read. I love to cozy by the fire with a good book in winter and sit on the porch swing wiht a good book in summer. I do most of my research online but I read books everyday

yes you are right... in our days if i want to make a research i am not going to the library like in the past people did, now you open your computer and start to search whatever you want, all you need is right here in your computer, you just must to open it! now i am reading books just in my free time!

For research work, of course the net is the best option. But we read books not only to research something. We read them for aesthetic needs. If you cannot understand this you shold forget the books.

I a with you on this one, when I was pregnant with my daughter we didn't have a home pc, so I used what to expect when you're expecting ALOT, now with this pregnancy I have been using the internet for all of my concerns and have used my book maybe once. I think it is sad too, I used to read alot, I loved to read novels, but after my daughter was born I lost my reading time, and now Im just addicted to mylot. lol

I research only on line. I never have anything to do with a book anymore, unless it is the bible, a best seller, or a travel map.

For research i definately use the internet - it is so much easier, however there is nothing like relaxing with a good book. I do read alot less now than I did when I was single, but would still say that i read a book every 2 weeks, and I would not wanna end it .. although I guess if i have kids I will have to =)

I research more online, but that doesn't stop me from reading books. I've always been more of a fiction reader anyway, and I just can't get into e-books the same way I can a good novel. I read almost every night before I go to sleep!

I prefer to do research online because there will be many informations available to me. Hence, I feel that by doing searching on the net is more faster than doing research in books. I have not say that books are not as good as internet, books do have great and valuable informations too but for me internet is my first choice to do my research since it is more faster. I read books too when I have free times and I usually read fictions.

As far as research goes, I admit, I do most of that on the Internet...But as someone who works in a library, I take GREAT exception with your comment that it seems like the internet is doing away with the need for books. Though I do most research online, I still find I read a lot of fiction, as well as history and biographical books. The last time I picked up a book was probably last night...I'm currently reading a recent Robert Crais novel called The Two Minute Rule....Basically, it's about a bank robber who gets out of prison after ten years, and on the day he gets out, he finds out his son, who is a cop, has been murdered...So far, it's looking like it was a dirty cop who killed the son and three other cops, because the son and his friends were getting close to recovering $16 million in stolen money from several bank robberies in LA. A good book, actually. I find I download a lot of braille books and listen to lots of audio books...I probably go through one every week or two, usually reading during my ride to and from work, or after my daughter goes to bed. So, I can see how the Internet has maybe decreased the need for encyclopedias and such, but most people I know still like to read a good book when they get the chance.

I do more research online now. So sad, yes, because like with me, I have so much books here on babies and parenting, but I end up reading more on those topics online. Online, if there's a term I dont understand in an article, I can easily search for that term again in a search engine, and I have my answer already, without even having to stand up and go through a dictionary.

yes you are right, i feel that way too. i think that internet replaces books for me not for researching purposes, but for the time i spend on net so i dont have time to commit my self to a nice book like i used to. but books are irreplaceable for me

I'm in college so I end up reading books quite frequently. The last time I read a book for actual fun was about two months ago though.

I must say that I never read a book completely in my life besides school or work related books. I don't like that kid of reading, I prefer reading magazines or newspapers than reading books, it's boring.

In my mind the internet can never replace books. I just finished a book this afternoon and I am getting ready to start number 9 in the series. I hate to read online. I can only sit at the computer so long before it hurts my eyes and makes me tired.

I highly recommend you turn your computer off and go read a book. I do the majority of my research online as well because it is easier but often times I will do that to find books to go get and look at, because books are much more reliable sources, unless you know where to go on the internet. I disagree that the internet is doing away with the need for books, I read for pleasure all the time, not just for research. It is the one thing I do most nights before I go to bed, to me it is relaxing. Maybe I'm a loser because I love to read but I highly recommend going to get a book, no matter what it is, how long or how short do it!!

I read books for enjoyment. Usually have three going at the same time, one science fiction, another history or comedy or mystery and a biography. I am a compulsive reader, if it is written I have to read it, be it a book, magazine, letter, cooking instructions on a box, toilet paper wrapper, it doesn't matter. When I need to do research, I turn to the internet...and my daughter. I get too distracted trying to read every entry on every search, so I usually ask her to do it for me. She is quite good at it.
