Are there any USEFUL free programs available for download out there?

I spend hours daily searching the web for free programs and apps but all i normally find is inferior garbage. I understand that because funding is limited on FREEWARE I should not expect too much. but in all honesty, free is too high a price to pay for what i found.So if you know of any good apps and programs please let me know.

Try Game Maker. Free games, and some tutorials on making your own games. Interesting stuff.

Basic Game Maker is free, upgraded version costs $20, but I thought it was worth it after I'd made a test game.
I went looking for freeware a while back and there's a lot of it, even if some of them don't seem to know the difference between freeware and shareware.

If you could find paid software for free on the internet with all the features, then who would be looking for those freewares, which do not offer anything in value!!
