SAGE Advice

It seems as if all of our parents at one time or another dispensed some wisdom to us that was supposed to help us throughout life. That sage wisdom. Other stuff was mere instructions. So what was something that your parents had told you that has stuck with you throughout the years? Was there one piece of advice that has truly been helpful? Was there any that now you laugh about? One thing my dad had always said that struck me as funny - but I still remember it to this day - was that if I did something that was stupid and going to hurt me, he would just say, "go ahead and do it. If it hurts enough, you'll know never to do that again."

My mother always told me if you are going to do a job, do it well and that way you don't need to redo it. This has always stuck with me and I try very hard to follow it, because of course, mom was right. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry, I just try and do a really quick slap-happy job, and of course I always end up having to redo it! I remember mom and dad always telling us as kids that these were the best days of our lives (meaning because we were kids). At the time that never made any sense to me, now however, will all the responsibilites of an adult, I fully understand what they meant.

That's a good one. I have tried to instill that in my children. I'm not sure yet if they got the message. I can only hope.

Its true!! Ofcourse even my parent has told many thing for each and every action I do. One such thing I remember even now is that I cry a lot for the misdeed what I've done usually. Thus it better to think before is proceed anything. I think your might remember a proverb most popular. "Think before Ink"

The one positive thing my father always told me was, "Never stop learning. If you do your brain will die." He would also ask me everyday at the end of the day, what I had learned that day. If I didn't give him an adequate answer, I would be in trouble. Therefore, I learned something new everyday, and I still do. I really believed my brain would die, lol. It is funny now, but also holds a bit of truth. Studies are showing that older people that continue to learn new skills and keep their brains active have less of a chance of developing Alzheimers. I guess dad knew what he was talking about.

That is SO true!! I try to do that with my kids in a way. I think it is so important. Plus, I believe that about not using our brains they will die. For awhile of being a SAHM, while pregnant, I didn't really exercise my mind as much as I could have, and I can really tell when I stopped.
