Why do people think that Paris is the most romantic city in the world?

People, mostly Americans believe Paris is the most romantic city in the world. I've been too Paris and couldn't stand it. Don't get me wrong, I like France, went there 3 years in row in summer when i was younger plus 2 years to Disneyland Paris, but Paris (ignoring Disneyland) is full of tourist. I believe if it were still the 19th century, the city would have been very romantic. But in this day and age, there's nothing romantic about it. Portugal, is the most romantic country inthe world to me and Venice is the most romantic city/place. what do you think guys??
