Question about fish tanks

Fish tank - This is bigger than my tank

Why do fish tanks have double glass? or maybe an easier question why are they made so the fish cant see out the front? Is it so people walking by dont frighten them. If you dont know what im talking about go to your fish tank and put your hand on the side, then look at it through the front. you cant see it. why is that. what is the point of it?

Would you like to have the fish run and hide while your trying to watch them? Their scared of anything bigger than them, like you.
