Who are the best metal bands in terms of creativity and songwriting ability? For me, 1. Symphony X - the kings of songwriting..so many unique chord changes and musicality makes them the best on the list..the best songwriting showcase is on V - The New Mythology Suite. 2. Opeth - The kings of Swedish metal, and Michael's voice never ceases to amaze me...check out Still Life or Ghost Reveries. 3. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Perfectly organized chaos marks their signature sound..although perfectly executed and great, once you get past the vocal "style". 4. Shadow Gallery - Some amazing songs, especially on Room V. 5. Kamelot - The Black Halo is by far their best.. 6. Zero Hour - Another great band... 7. Tool - Some great music, especially on Lateralus, but monotony in their sound makes them a bit hard to digest sometimes.. 8. Dream Theater - A great band with top-notch musicians, but their songwriting doesn't flow as well as most others on this list.. 9. System of a Down - Had to put them on here. Some great creativity in their songwriting, especially on their first disc.. 10. Nightwish - The orchestration on "Once" is just out of this world...excellent.
