A Misconception About Atheists

So I was over at my bestest friend's house, and she was having this debate/argument with this fellow who claims agnosticism for himself, and he was trying (and failing dubiously) to make the argument that people that are Atheists must have anger issues. I'd like to officially call that a misguided bunch of codswallop. First, lets do some etymology here. A = without Gnosis = Knowledge Thus, to be agnostic is to be without knowledge (read: belief) in God. Now, A = without Theis = deity Thus, to be atheist is to be without deity. There's no anger there whatsoever. Now I don't discount that a lot of people that claim atheism are really just angry agnostics; lovers jilted by the spiritual experience just waiting, yearning, like the speaker in Thomas Hardy's "Hap' for some "merciful" God to rain fire down on their heads, just so they can know s/he/it exists. Look, there are retarded atheists just like there are retarded anythings. Don't think that all of us have some sort of misplace father/mother issues that we're projecting on a deity. I assure you we aren't. My atheism is about recognizing my inner ubermensch, and claiming all of that energy that people want to give to God to myself. I am my God, and that has made me exactly the opposite of angry. It's given me great joy. I think a certain MyLOt friend of mine would back me up on that joyful sentiment.

I am a Christian but I enjoy my friendship with some well-informed atheits. They (at least those that I know of)tend to be well principled and stand on what they believe or not believe. They are WYSIWYG (what you is what you get) type, no masks. I have friends who claim to be christians but I don't feel comfortable to be with. They moralize and pontificate on just anything and tend to look down on people who don't share their beliefs. There are times when I feel they are wearing masks. Trying to project an image of holiness but they are actually the exact opposite. There are more to life to be enjoyed than to get stuck in endless and open ended discussions and debates. I found life in my personal faith in God the same way you found great joy in your personal convictions.

It's the pontificators we have to worry about. A true Christian--like yourself--is comfortable enough in their beliefs that they can take ideas from other ways of thinking and find a way to incorporate them into their lives to make them even better Christians. Thanks for the thought brother
