I Love you! (A phrase that has no meaning anymore)

Since I have began college, I have realized that people say I love you to each other as they leave from one another. Its kinda like sayin goodbye. Later on, however, there are often times when they two friends become enimies and talk about each other right after.Same thing goes with relationships. People want to love someone and quickly throw these words around like water in a pool. Do you think that this phrase has lost its meaning in our society today?

I do not think it has lost its meaning - I just think people are a lot more fake and say it when they do not mean it because they want somthing. Looking at your pic - I love you too!!!! lol - But seriously - I think these days people will tell you what ever it takes to get what they want out of you. I think we do not say it enough to those we really do love - I guess you just have to weed through the fakers. But in any case - Saying I love you is better that F you - Mabe the f you is more respectable because atleast you know how the person feels but I am sure it would cause a lot more fights - especially in college!

I agree, "I love you" has become more sadly over raded. I think that people need to think twice before they just blurt out the words.

I think it is lovely for familys to tell each other how much they love them as for friends I think they know if you care for them or not with the way to talk to them xx

I think that perhaps they use the word very lightly without much thought. However, it does depend on the people using them. I think in a relationship, the words "I love you" are said with more feeling and meaning though.

I can't account for how others are but I can for myself. I never say good-bye, I say laters. I don't toss the words I Love You around carelessly because there are hearts, emotions and feelings behind each and every person. If I tell someone I love them, it is because it is genuine and they are like family to me or they are indeed family be it my children, my husband or my grandchildren. Please know that there are some of us out there that take those special and highly valued words very seriously. For those that have forgotten the true value of having someone love them even as a friend, I hope they do truely find what they seek. Blessings all and hope to hear from you all...

It depends upon the way you look at it ! Some find real meaning in it whereas some take it as a common word which could mean also "good bye".. best wishes !

Most people are oblivious to the real meaning of love that is why they say it too much. As for me I say this only to my husband and son, because I am certain that I really love them.

I never say I love you too friends but a few years back a group of us started a weight loss challenge through the internet and we keep in touch. I always say I love you to them. My husband and I tell each other I love you before we go to sleep every night. My kids and I will say it every now and then. They are grown and tend to say it when they want something especially the 16 year old.

I know that it hasn't lost it's meaning for me, personally. I do think that people throw those words around far too easily nowadays in general, though, like you were saying. But for me personally, my family never really have been the type to say I love you, so it is incredibly hard for me to even say it. I have to feel it with all of my heart, and then get up the courage to say it, which takes a long time. I have rarely even told anyone that I love them. In fact, it is sad that I don't think that I have ever said I love you to either my mother or my father, and I can't remember if they ever said it to me, they probably did when I was young? But I don't remember. I just hope I am able to say it to them before they leave this world, because I truly do love them both dearly.
