Have you ever had a dog shipped?

I'm referring to buying from a breeder that is out of state and having the dog either go through a van courier, or a major airline to get to you. I'm in the process of doing that now and I wanted to see if anyone else has had any good or bad experiences with this. BTW, I'm not looking for the same old, "there are x amount of dogs in a shelter going to be put to sleep.." I realize that, and I am proud to say that I have a Golden Retriever dog that I rescued from such a place.

I flew a dog to my daughter. We got little dog kennel, put in some food and a blanket , and sent her to California. It was only about and hour and 40min. trip. She was fine.

This is about a 1000 mile trip to get to my area. I'm not sure how many hours that is on a plane though. Plus lay overs and such. I will update this when I get the pup next month.

A couple of years ago my nephew purchased a dog from a breeder and the dog was flown on a major airline to where my nephew lived. He didn't have any problems at all. Most airlines have certain restrictions about pets being flown like if the weather is too hot and some airlines have employees who are trained to monitor the animals during layovers. I have also heard about special courier services just for this purpose of transporting pets to certain destinations. As long as you use a reputable courier service or airline I don't think you should have any trouble and before long you will have a new four-footed friend ready to go home with you.
