Does anyone know anyone with this personality disorder?

I believe that my boyfriend, who is abusive, has this disorder. Whenever I talk about something that has happened to me, he has to say that he has done this, this has happened to him, etc. and it has be a better or longer story than mine. I told my mother about this, and she seems to think that he has this as well because he likes to talk a lot and won't shut up about himself. I know that there are people out there who are self-centered and egotistical, but his goes way beyond these two attributes. So, just would like to know if you know anyone who is like this and what do you do about it? How do you get away from someone like this, or do you just ignore him (or her)?
