i want to open a discussion on this subject..after the controversial big brother fiasco... there is always a lot of emphasis on white racism towards colour and anti semitism but after having mixed with so many different cultures i have notice that there are so many types that are played down..like black racism towards chinese..and so on..the list is endless.. what are your ideas on this?

Racism is treating someone differently or unfairly simply because they belong to a different race or culture. People can also experience prejudice because of their religion or nationality. Racism takes many different forms. These can include: Personal attacks of any kind, including violence Written or verbal threats or insults Damage to property, including graffiti Why are people racist? Unfortunately racism can exist in all races and cultures. Racists feel threatened by anyone who is from a different race or culture. We are not born racist. Our views and beliefs develop as we grow up. If a child or young person grows up within a racist family, or has friends who are racist, they may believe that racism is normal and acceptable. Prejudice of any kind is often based on ignorance and fear of anything unfamiliar. The effects of racism If a young person is experiencing racism of any kind, they may become lonely and sad. They may also try and avoid situations where racist behaviour could occur, and pretend to be ill, play truant from school, or be scared to leave their house.

I don't care what color people are, we are all human. I know what it is like to have racism thrown at me. I am white, I was living in Georgia at the time. I was talking to a friend of mine at the elevator, just a normal conversation. A black woman was standing not too far from us popping her gum. I politely asked her to please stop as I had a headache and the noise was making the pain worse. She ran to her supervisor claiming I made a slur on her people. I was called down to personnal office and they really laid into me. Saying I need to watch every little thing that I say as they are an oppressed people. I told her that I was not nor ever will be a racist. I actually felt insulted that she called me that. I have friends from many nations. There is only one race and that is the HUMAN race. I was a white person working in a company where most of the employees where black. I got along great with 99% of them. The person that made the complaint, didn't get along with anybody, no matter where they came from. What it actually boiled down to was, I was from the north and she was born in the south. There are times when you really feel the hatred between north and south. She was eventually transferred to another job as she kept causing trouble for all the employees. If people would just see the human being that is standing in front of them and act accordingly, human to human, maybe this planet would be a better place to live. Lets all get along and respect everyone for who they are. We are all related.

I think no matter what color you are or where your from it does not matter. we are equal whether you or whoever else likes it or not.. I get so sick of people judging people for their color.. I am white. did I choose this color for myself? No. God did.. and no matter what color he made me who cares, I am perfect because that's how HE made me. and He is the only one who can judge me.. I really hate racism, I dont know why people feel they are any better than anyone else. I dont know what makes them think they have a right to say anything about anyone. I am who I am and you are who you are so move on with life and be happy.. lets worry about something else then hating someone for something so stupid. That is my idea on the racism subject.

Hi, I agree with you totally. We none of us chose to be male or female, white, black, red, yellow etc.. however many skin colours there are. Even our personalities, we were born with it and depended on our caregivers to nurture and mould in our formative years and later to make our own choices - good or bad. I don't understand why there must be unequality among races and nationalites. Look at everyone as equal and respect everyone as a gift from God. Maybe then the world will be a more peaceful place.

I'm white. I grew up in the old South West Africa (now Namibia). For the first 14 years of my life the government in power followed the ideology of apartheid . After elections in 1990 power passed into the hands of the masses. We now live in a free, democratic society. That's the facts on paper. In reality, the whites are still racist, and so are the blacks. Nothing much changed. To be a racist is a personal choice. I chose not to be one. However, my choice doesn't stop me from observing the people around me. We have 11 ethnic groups. They all discriminate against each other. But the moment discrimination turns black/white, it becomes a major issue. Then it is DISCRIMINATION & RACISM. And this is what bothers me most - why can two black persons discriminate against each other and call each other names, but it becomes a crime the moment a white person does it. Oh, and it just happens to be OK when it's the other way round.

I think you will find there is racism in all cultures, its is just that we can't understand the racist comments some make but they are there, I heard just the other day of a fella in a cricket team that after a team member got upset for being called a name that referred to his dark skin, and the name the call the particular member who made the remark is Whitey by the upset team....go figure....I think there is too much sensitivety on the part of some groups.

Racsim goes both ways... meaning every race has racists. The reason you mostly hear about white racism is because of the overall power of the white race that has influenced opportunity and progression of other races.

Racism is attached to mankind, not only to white people....the only difference is that the rich puts his foot over the poor's neck. Or do you think that the apartheid couldn't had happened the other way round? of course, if curcumstances had been up for it...in fact, in countries like where Robert Mugabe is, something similar is happening and white people are losing their lands just because black people should have them, they say, and those whites are as natives as them and have been there for centuries.

I think that people generally tend to form groups with others like them, especially people who have not been exposed to cultures other than their own. and it's natural for them to believe that something that appears foreign and something that they don't really know anything about (like another race) is somehow bad. We must try to educate them and broaden their horizons.
