I am trying to lose weight so I'm looking for some healthy cereals to eat for breakfast. When I looked at the store stuff like Raisin Bran had sugar listed as the second ingrediant. I've been told this is bad. What should I buy?

I buy shredded wheat. It has nothing but whole wheat in it. Sometimes I'll add a little cinnamon or banana to it to add some flavor. I read the labels of all the food I buy now. I try to avoid added sugar if at all possible, especially corn syrup. I also avoid enriched flour and hydrogenated oils.

Oh, I forgot, I love to eat hot oatmeal too. I just eat the plain oats cooked in water and milk and sometimes add cinnamon and raisins.

The healthiest cereal I believe that is out there on the market right now would just be oatmeal. You can add whatever you want to this cereal such as raisins or fruit. And it still will end up being healthy, but also tasty at the same time. I know when I was dieting that I had ate a lot of oatmeal for a snack or for breakfast & it helped for me to go down quite a few sizes. Another cereal that I have found to be one of the bests would have to be in my opinion.. Shredded wheat. It doesn't matter if it's the full size or even the spoon size. This cereal has a lot of fiber, but also.. They don't have all those added sugars in this type of cereal. I find it tastes rather yummy but it can also be quite filling I find to. I recommend this cereal as well. I haven't personally tried this brand of cereal before but I've heard that it's really good for people who are dieting.. It's called "Kashi." I've heard that it is low in sugar, but also very high in fiber. So you may want to look in to that type of cereal as well. I've also heard that "Special K" is quite nutritious as well. I know that I've tried it a few times but have a difficult time eating it.. I just don't find it has as much flavor as the other cereals I had mentioned have. But you could give it a try.. I know a lot of people say how healthy it is for one.. You could also try bran cereals. I personally can't stand to eat these type but I know that they really help to clean you out. My Aunt when she was still alive used to mix her bran cereal with yogurt all of the time as well.. And she used to always try to convince me to try this cereal because she had stated how.. It's a high source in fiber, & it has no preservatives.. But I've never been a big fan of this type of cereal. But you may want to try this out as well. I've also heard that "Total" is just as good as the other's I have mentioned above.. Never tried it but you can see if it's something you'd like. Other then that those are the only one's I know of that tend to be rather healthy & have a lot of fiber in them. I hope I was able to give you a few idea's.. And if your overly concerned just do your research on each cereal so you know what you will be putting in to your system.. I wish you all the best. xx

My husband recommends Honey Bunches of Oats for cold cereal and I offer hot oatmeal, where you control what you put on top of or in it. Both help keep yout chloresterol down.

Nothing wrong with sugar, we need it. It's the excessive taking of it that's bad. If you are that anxious why not stick to oatmeals? You might find it difficult to find processed cereals without any sugar in it.

its easy to lose weight .if you're trying to lose your body fat and not lean mass than . 1)drink a glass of water or two just before you start your each meal 2)eat vegetable salad after water and then go for sprouted grams or brown rice (boil at home) or barley powder with skimmed milk products. 3)avoid fat foods such as frid stuff.chocolates, cookies, processed foods etc. try to be a lover of natural food and do plenty of excercise without affecting your body in a negative way. sleep well. you;ve already lost your weight . go and weigh yourself.since my preaching is so long that people tend to lose their bodyfat once they finish reading it .ha ha best of luck .god bless you and your weight

ok so i have never seen cereal that doesnt have sugar as the 1st 2nd or 3rd ingredient. does that mean those cereals arent healthy? do any of you know of any cereals w/out sugar in them? or that is not a main ingredient? please answer seriously and thanks! Additional Details 6 months ago i mean i thought honey bunches of oats was healthy, but i looked at the ingredients and sugar was the 3rd ingredient! is that okay? is it healthy? 6 months ago and yes, the order of the ingredients do matter. the 1st one listed is the main ingredient, and the ingredients at the end are the least used. get it?

I like Shredded wheat. i like it cooked in milk and then i like to add powdered green cardamom or some powdered cinnamon. i like banana to to add in it. or else i prefer muesli. i can add fruits in it as well well as dry fruits like almonds and raisins and all. some xomes with dried fruit already added in it, but i like fresh fruit more than the dried ones. you can give that a try t oo. oatmeals are no doubt good and will be good for you too.

Certainly sugar content will affect your ability to lose weight. And, all that sugar might make you "crash" later on and feel tired and listless. Beware yogurts as most are loaded with sugar. Try the instant oatmeal idea. Quaker plain instant oatmeal cooks up in minutes and tastes delicious with pecans, walnuts, bananas, peaches, blueberries, brown sugar or cream, etc. By making your own hot cereal from scratch you can better control your portion size and the sugar/fat content. Best of luck with your weight loss efforts.
