Dreams do they really mean anything?

i've often wondered if dreams actually mean anything..i know right before my sister found out she was pregnant she had like a really bad dream about someone dying. a friend told her at work that if you dream something like that then someone mostly yourself is gonna have a baby. of course she was like "yea right ive never heard such a thing" well she ended up missing her next period and started getting morning sickness so of course she goes to the dr, thinking nothing of what this woman had told her, and found out she was in fact pregnant. she goes back to work and told her friends that she was gonna be expecting and the friend that told her all the stuff about someone being pregnant said "see i told you so" my sister told her "that had nothing to do with it that it was just a coincidence". well about 5 months later i had a dream that someone came in my house and shot my mother-in-law and she died. i told my sister this and she says "go get check and see if your pregnant" so i did and believe it or not i was...going on what i have heard about the saying for every death a new live is born....im just wondering what everyones opinion is..do dreams mean something? do they try to tell us anything? or are they just dreams?
